Opening Ceremony of the International Year of the Woman Farmer (IYWF) 2026

FAO, in collaboration with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and Ireland, will host an event on the sidelines of the Hundred and Seventy-nine Session of the FAO Council to launch the International Year of the Woman Farmer (IYWF) 2026. The event marks the official start of the United Nations observance of the International Year, and it will raise awareness of the crucial roles that women farmers around the world play in agrifood systems, as well as their contributions to food security, nutrition, and poverty eradication.

The United Nations declared 2026 the International Year of the Woman Farmer (IYWF 2026). The Year will spotlight the essential roles women play across agrifood systems, from production to trade, while often going unrecognised. Women farmers are central to food security, nutrition and economic resilience. IYWF 2026 will raise awareness and promote actions to close the gender gaps and improve women’s livelihoods worldwide.
