ForGEDI MOOC - has officially launched online!
The world’s first Massive Open Online Course on Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (GEDI) in forest-related sectors – ForGEDI MOOC – has officially launched online!
Playing a pivotal role as one of the course coordinators is our researcher, Ida Wallin. “There is a pervasive challenge of inequality within the forestry sector, transcending borders from Sweden to a global scale,” she remarks.
To address these pressing issues, a specialized task force within IUFRO – International Union of Forest Research Organizations was established five years ago, with a primary focus on promoting gender equality in forestry. Thus, the inception of the course, now accessible online.
This collaborative effort involves 29 organizations and 40 international experts across five continents, jointly coordinated by the Università degli Studi di Padova, the SLU – Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, and the Université de Moncton. The course’s funding partners include SLU Global and FSC International, while key contributors of materials comprise UN Women, CIFOR-ICRAF, and FSC International. The development of the course was initiated by the IUFRO Task Force on Gender Equality in Forestry.
According to Ida, “it’s a unique opportunity for individuals to cultivate understanding and actively contribute to fostering gender equality, diversity, and inclusion throughout the global forest sector.”
